Been A Second…But I’m Back!

What’s Up?!

So it’s been over a year since I posted here on Bloggertronix. I managed to let my domain name expire and some fella in Asia was holding it ransom for an unimaginable amount so yeah….there was that…during that time I was dealing with a bunch of pretty chronic health issues, and Mummying to the max with my 2 year old son, Dax. I took over a year off. Stopped working for labels, bands and managing artists and focused on my health and family….sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Fast forward to last month and I finally got my Bloggertronix domain back! Whoop! Got it at auction for next to nothing and so http://www.bloggertronix.com is back in action! Health is getting back on track…kiddo is off to creche a few times a week and I can start going through the over 3,000 emails in my blog account, and researching for music to post! So stay tuned!

LA BASED ROBOT KOCH ANNOUNCES NEW RECORD

By far one of the most creative and other worldly, electronic music producers and DJ’s coming out of Berlin, Robot Koch has been a fave of Bloggertronix for a while. His work with Jahcoozi and Berlin based MC RQM, was what first introduced us to this artist, and since that time he has grown both musically and career wise, and last year garnered the German Music Composers Award for best composer of electronic music.

Robot’s first full length release in four years is set to drop on Monkeytown Records, in early November.

It was bound to happen sooner or later, two LA based crews coming together to create a super brilliant release. Earlier last week  milo, Open Mike Eagle and Nick Diamonds featured on Nalepa‘s beautifully chill joint “Another One of Mine“. It turns out that this tune was to be the single to the new four track EP.

This is smart, forward thinking rap at it’s best…the EP production is just as fresh and bright as the single…not over polished, clean with just the right amount of sheen. The release was produced by  Nalepa, Great Dane, Promnite and Penthouse Penthouse respectively… some seriously sweet stuff!

The lyrics for these tunes are personal, revealing….I’ve got them on high rotation and if you’re down with this sort of thing, I think you will too.

In the early 2000’s I first heard the music of husband and wife duo (at the time, there are now two other members), Looper and loved the fresh indie pop the band created. The group is fronted by Belle and Sebastian co-founder Stuart David, his partner visual artist and Musician Kam used to make the videos for B and S in the early days.

The band as a huge catalog and have released a limited edition (only 200 made), 5 Disc box set entitled ‘These things’. The release is home to 58 tracks, plus a 20 page booklet which includes sleeves notes by The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess. A digital copy of the new album ‘Offgrid:Offline’ is also offered with the box set…what an awesome cache of goodness!!

The following video is for the single ‘I’m a photograph’ taken from the new record, it was created by Kam David and features photos sent in for a competion run by looper and Lomography…pretty neato!

Okay, so this album dropped a few months ago, and I should have mentioned it earlier but yeah…life, babies and such happened, and as you may have noticed blog updates have been few and far between….I’m trying to change that though.

So yes, Castanets’ ‘Decimation Blues’ dropped on ‘Asthmatic Kitty Records‘ in mid-August, and I’ve had it on heavy rotation since so I ought to write about it over here quick sharp right?!

What a deadly release! Front man Raymond Raposa has reinvented the Castanets sound once again with this his 6th release. The bands musical style has developed, evolved into something quite unique…a future sound, a space western soundtrack from the future…really experimental and brighter, much lighter then previous ‘Castanets’ releases.

Despite the ominous sounding title there is hope and light in this 12 track record. The album features broad soundscapes, drum machine beats and synth sounds hanging out with haunting analog elements. It is home to everyday life stories, tales of times gone by, with some familiar characters thrown in for good measure. Stories told in the most poignant way, lyrics delivered via Raposa’s signature rusty-croak vocals…Wonderful stuff!

It’s been a few years since TV On The Radio released a record, and from what I can gather by listening to their recently released singles, it’s been time well spent.

The lads are back and in fine form. The new tracks are brilliant, rock-out tightness in full effect. The upbeat racer ‘Happy Idiot’ and reverb drenched, synth joint ‘Careful You’, make me super excited to get this album in my grubby little mitts!

VOK have been creating some pretty lovely, soulful, electronic music for little over a year. Not too long ago the band signed to The Musebox, and now plan to release their debut EP entitled ‘Tension’ on October 21st, 2014.

I just listened to the tracks of said release and am pleasantly surprised…Yes there are the hushed, smooth vocals the Icelandic folk are renowned for, but these vocals are supported by some super nifty, experimental beats and sweet sax/guitar driven melodies.
